Independence Day Weekend to Feature Annual Fireworks Show
Chamber, Local Businesses, County Collaborate on July 3 Production

CORTLAND – The annual fireworks show at Little York Lake, a staple of summertime in Cortland County, is scheduled for Sunday, July 3.

The Cortland County Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with several local businesses and Cortland County, has contracted with Young Explosives Corporation of Rochester to produce the show, set for 10:00 p.m. at Dwyer Park. The Cortland Old Timers Band will perform from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., and Oldies 101.5 will be on hand for a live remote broadcast that will include “real time” music specially produced for the event. A limited supply of special “3-D” glasses will also be made available at the park pavilion.

“We’re happy to be involved with the production of this event because it’s a real tradition in our community,” said Chamber Executive Director Garry VanGorder. “Having the Old Timers Band there that night will be a nice feature and should draw some people out to relax and enjoy themselves in a great setting. We’re looking forward to it.”

The band, which will perform from a stage near the Little York Lake shoreline, is now in its 38th year of concert performances in Central New York.

Admission to the park is free, but VanGorder said donations in support of the fireworks program will be accepted. “We hope people come out to Dwyer Park and make a day of it,” he said.

The show’s rain date is Friday, July 8.
