Wetstone,
Darryl Dawkins to Announce New Technology
A new technology providing irrefutable proof of autograph and
memorabilia authenticity will be unveiled in Cortland on
Saturday, April 9.
Developed by Sovereign Time, a Division of WetStone
Technologies, FairWitness technology will be used to produce
digital forensic evidence, eliminating the possibility of fake
autographs and memorabilia, providing future verification, and
preserving forever the exact moment-in-time of transference.
Scheduled for noon to 4:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Conference
Center, the invitation-only event will feature former NBA star
and Fairwitness spokesperson Darryl “Chocolate Thunder” Dawkins.
The world of autographed sports and celebrity memorabilia is a
$1 billion a year industry riddled by fraud, with estimates that
at least half of the items sold are forgeries. “Fraud is running
rampant in this industry,” said WetStone CEO Chet Hosmer.
“But I am thrilled that technology born of government research
can be at the heart of the solution. We look forward to working
with stakeholders to bring integrity back to this time-honored
tradition.”
Headquartered in Cortland, WetStone performs advanced research
and development in cyber security for the Department of Defense,
federal law enforcement, the department of homeland security and
multinational corporations around the world. The company’s
Sovereign Time division provides the most secure source of
auditable time currently available to governments and industries
around the globe. The Sovereign Time technologies and services
are an outgrowth of a three-year Small Business Innovation
Research contract funded by the United States Air Force.
Dawkins made national headlines in 1975 when he was the fifth
overall pick in the NBA draft and became the first player ever
to move directly from high school to the NBA. He joined the
Philadelphia 76ers at age 18, and over a 14-year career,
established himself as a physical presence under the basket. He
was the first player to smash a backboard and his 383 personal
fouls in 1983-84 still stands as an NBA record.
A portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated to
purchase assistive and adaptive technologies for children in the
community having special needs.
Media representatives, collectors, and dealers interested in participating in the event can contact Adam Spencer at 607/756-6086, or via e-mail at Adam.Spencer@wetstonetech.com. Please note that attendance is by invitation only, and space is limited.
