Training Grant Program Announced
The Cortland County BDC and the City of Cortland are launching a microenterprise
training grant program to assist small business owners with fewer than five
employees located in the City of Cortland. The City of Cortland is funding the
program through $5,000 in CDBG funds. The BDC will market and administer the
program.
Businesses interested in applying for the funding should call the BDC at
756-5005 to determine if they are eligible, and to discuss their training needs.
The BDC will work with the Cortland Works Career Center to help identify the
best training program to fit the need. Training must relate directly to better
managing or growing the business, such as bookkeeping, computer training,
marketing or exporting. There is a $1,000 maximum per company.
The BDC will work with the company to fill out the application form, and forward
it to the City of Cortland for approval. While priority will be given to Zone
businesses, other businesses may also apply. The City will issue payment
directly to the training vendor, or reimburse the applicant for approved
expenses, upon proof of successful completion of the program.
