Northeast metal building manufacturer specializing in space for factories, riding arenas, agricultural buildings, restaurants, aviation, hockey rinks, mini storage, and warehouses.9/12/2004
Cortland's Essex Structural Steel Co., Inc. is investing $1.7 million
to construct a new manufacturing facility in Cortlandville.
Construction is underway and is scheduled for completion by December.

Essex is a manufacturer of steel buildings, pole buildings, roofing and siding panels. Its new 32,000 square-foot facility will sit on eight acres in the Build Now NY commercial park on Route 13 near the Monarch building in South Cortland.

Company president Anthony C. Barbetta said Essex has outgrown its current facilities in the city of Cortland, and that the new plant will allow the company to double its manufacturing capacity. "I believe this expansion is the beginning of our growth for the next few years and will lead to more expansion and growth in the next decade," he said. Essex, which now has 26 employees, could add 10-15 new workers within five years.

Essex has been manufacturing steel buildings since 1972, focusing on the northeast market. It is the only pre-engineered steel building manufacturer in the state. Essex metal buildings, both pre-engineered steel and pole buildings, have been used for factories, riding arenas, agricultural buildings, restaurants, aviation, and hockey rinks. Essex has manufactured more than100 buildings for the Dollar General chain, and supplied the building to the US Navy that houses the presidential helicopter. The company manufactures buildings ranging in scale from 400 to 80,000 square feet.
