Brian R. Mitteer has
been named Cortland Memorial Hospital's new President/Chief Executive Officer.
Mitteer will officially assume his new role on September 27. Mitteer brings over
20 years of experience as a healthcare executive to his new position. For the
past 13 years he served as President/CEO of Southern Vermont Health Services
Corp. and its subsidiary Brattleboro Memorial Hospital (BMH) in Vermont. During
his tenure at the hospital, Mitteer oversaw two major construction projects,
developed programs that increased market share, and added appropriate technology
and services to enhance healthcare of the greater Brattleboro community. Under
his leadership, BMH was ranked as one of the lowest cost, most efficient
hospitals in Vermont, with high patient satisfaction standings. His other prior
healthcare leadership positions were as President/CEO of Chippewa County War
Memorial Hospital (Sault Ste. Marie, MI) and President/CEO of Delaware Valley
Hospital, located in Walton, which is east of Binghamton.
Born in Monticello, NY, Mitteer received his associates degree from SUNY-Delhi,
followed by his bachelor of science degree from Cornell University. He continued
his education at Russell Sage College (Troy, NY), graduating with a masters of
science degree in Health Care Administration. Mitteer also served in both the
New York and Vermont Army National Guard, including responsibilities as Company
Commander in Walton, Oneonta and Windsor (VT), and as a Battalion Adjunct in
Binghamton. Among his many professional affiliations, Mitteer served as Regent
for Vermont in the American College of Healthcare Executives and on the Regional
Policy Board for the American Hospital Association. He was also active in the
Brattleboro community, including membership in the Brattleboro Rotary Club (past
President) and as a trustee on the Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation.
