LABOR DAY FIREWORKS SHOW TO MAKE UP FOR JULY 4TH “DUD”

Chamber, County Agree to Collaborate on Future Summertime Shows

CORTLAND – Hoping to atone for a July 4 weekend fireworks display that left many disappointed, Cortland County officials have scheduled a special encore presentation for this Labor Day weekend. The show, set for Saturday, September 4, will be the first produced in partnership with the Cortland County Chamber of Commerce.
“We really want to do something special to make up for that July 4 show, which didn’t go off as planned,” said Cortland County Legislature Chairman Scott Steve. “We’ve scheduled Labor Day weekend this year, but working with the Chamber our hope is to go back to the kind of Independence Day fireworks to which people have become accustomed.”
The Chamber agreed to get involved with the project as part of its work in support of Cortland’s quality of life. “It’s more than just a fireworks show; it’s really become a summertime tradition around here,” said Chamber Executive Director Garry VanGorder. “Our aim over time will be to make the show bigger and better than ever.”
The free Labor Day fireworks show will feature “real time” music specially produced for the event and aired over Oldies 101.5 A limited supply of special “3-D” glasses will also be made available.
“We want to turn this up a notch and really present something special,” Steve said. “It should be a lot of fun.”
