Cayuga Medical Center Opens New Convenient Care and Commons Imaging Center in Cortland

The new Convenient Care and Commons Imaging Center, on Route 281 at Commons Avenue in Cortland, opens its doors on Saturday, May 8, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m., to which the public is invited. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., visitors can tour the new building and take advantage of free health screenings for cholesterol, blood pressure, diabetes, and colorectal cancer. In honor of Mother’s Day, the first 150 guests will receive a free potted plant. On Monday, May 10, the Convenient Care and Commons Imaging Center will open for patient care.

Cortland Mayor Tom Gallagher and Garry VanGorder, executive director of the Cortland County Chamber of Commerce, will be on hand to participate in the Grand Opening, along with Dr. Rob Mackenzie, president and CEO of Cayuga Medical Center, Dr. Eddo deLong, president of Eight County Physicians Organization (ECPO), and Richard Kazel of the Syracuse VA Medical Center.

A Cortland service of Cayuga Medical Center, this new urgent care and diagnostic imaging center will provide area residents with easy access to urgent care for minor health-care emergencies that occur after hours or can’t wait to be seen in the doctor’s office. “While Cayuga Medical Center has been providing both walk-in convenient care and diagnostic imaging services in Cortland for some time, this new facility joins the services together under one roof,” explains Dr. Mackenzie. “This approach is much more user friendly and efficient in terms of addressing the needs of our patients. honored to be working with the VA Medical Center in Syracuse to provide primary care services to area veterans at our Community Based Outpatient VA Clinic in this new facility.

“We will have full radiology and imaging capabilities in Cortland, including our extraordinary mammography services, just as we do at our other imaging sites at Ithaca Convenient Care Center and Cayuga Medical Center,” Mackenzie continues. “We have radiologists on site at all three locations so that women can learn their mammography results before they leave. We know that waiting for results can be stressful, so we’ve eliminated the wait. The response from our patients has been terrific and they tell us that this level of service really sets us apart.”

Urgent care, diagnostic x-ray, and lab services will be available at the center everyday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., including weekends and holidays. On weekdays, at Commons Imaging, patients have access to several state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging modalities, including MRI, multislice CT scanning, bone density scanning for osteoporosis, and ultrasound, in addition to mammography.

A live remote radio broadcast on WXHC between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, will feature gifts for listeners who stop in at the Convenient Care and Commons Imaging Center during the Open House.
