CORTLAND REPERTORY THEATRE INVITES EVERYONE TO A “BLUE RIBBON EVENT”!
Cortland Repertory Theatre cordially invites the Cortland community to its ninth annual Midsummer Madness fundraiser, to be held on Monday, July 14, at the Pavilion at Little York Lake.
Borrowing from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “State Fair”, the musical which will be on the CRT boards at that moment, the theme of the evening will be "A Blue Ribbon Event", with patrons invited to share in the ambiance of a midway. Attractions will include a caricaturist, a weight/age guesser, and other traditional midway fare.
Festivities will start with an open bar at 5:30 pm followed by dinner at 6:30 and a musical performance of "The Grandstand Review" accompanied by the traditional auction, at 7:30.
The dinner, which will be individually served, will include both chicken cordon bleu and London broil beef, along with rice pilaf, coleslaw or potato salad, and, as is fitting in the setting of a fair, a dessert of blue ribbon pies.
Actors from CRT’s “State Fair” will star in “The Grandstand Review”, borrowing the name from the New York State Fair venue where popular singers perform. The show will feature CRT’s six talented performing interns, who currently star in both “State Fair” and the children’s show “Winnie the Pooh”. The review will feature songs from Broadway musicals such as “Chicago”, “The Wild Party” and “City of Angels”, and selections from shows that CRT is considering for the future. The show will also feature improvisation scenes as well as jazz tunes performed by Joel Pape, CRT’s saxophone-playing Lighting Designer. Jim Gardner and Bill Coughlin will direct, with Josh Smith as musical director and Daniel Haley as choreographer. Producing Director Kerby Thompson will host the evening.
Many exciting items have been assembled for the auction, which will take place between the two acts of the review. They include garage door openers and a garden window from Overhead Door, several exotic dinners, a four-person one day pass to Disney World, a logo design or redesign valued at $500 from Drum Creative Communications Corp. and a two night overnight stay at Niagara Falls at the Quality Inn and Suites, sponsored by the Cortland Holiday Inn.
Tickets for the evening are $35 per person, and are available at the CRT Box Office, 37 Franklin Street; Jodi's Hallmark, 15 Main Street; or any CRT Board member. Reservations and information may also be obtained by calling the CRT Box Office at (607) 756-2627 or (800) 427-6160.
Patrons are encouraged to buy tickets early, since the Midsummer Madness galas frequently sell out and no tickets will be sold at the door. Also, reservations must close on July 11.
CRT hopes to see many fans at this Blue Ribbon Event!
