Bottled Water Project to Promote Empire State Games
The Cortland County Chamber of Commerce and area businesses have teamed up on a project to promote the Empire State Games visit to the city this summer. Bottled water bearing a colorful label commemorating the Games’ 25th anniversary will soon be available at select locations around the county.
Designed by Cortland’s Graphics Plus Printing, the labels adorn 16.9 oz. bottles of spring water produced by Aqua Valley Springs, an Edmeston firm operated by Cortland native Tim Haley.
The Chamber is marketing the product to interested businesses and community organizations. “This is a great project on a couple of levels,” said Chamber executive director Garry VanGorder. “It’s the result of a partnership among some folks who have a real interest in Cortland County, it’s helpful to the Chamber, and in a very professional, attractive way it promotes the Games and its visit to the community.”
The full-color label is a collage highlighting life in Cortland County, from its standout architecture to its natural beauty and its recreational opportunities. VanGorder said response to the promotion has been encouraging. “We’ve lined up a few retail outlets already, and I’m confident many more will sign up,” he said. “As much as anything, this is a community service project. Companies are happy to contribute on behalf of their hometown.”
The Empire State Games will visit Cortland July 31 August 4. Events in more than 20 sports will be conducted throughout the long weekend, bringing some 8,000 people to the community in the process.
