Never doubt that a small group
of thoughtful, committed citizens
can change the world; indeed it is
the only thing that ever has.

What is Leadership Cortland?

Leadership and Management Leadership Cortland is a non-profit organization that develops individuals to become leaders in Cortland County. Founded by the Cortland County Chamber of Commerce and Tompkins Cortland Community College in 1996, Leadership Cortland brings together diverse groups of citizens who share the interests of developing their leadership skills and improving their community.

Each class represents a cross-section of business, industry, education, non-profit and government organizations. The leadership program not only teaches class members about the assets and problems of our community, but also about group behavior, leadership, teams, transforming communities, and power. Class members forge strong bonds with each other and learn to approach challenges by creatively using their collective talents and experience. As of 2006, we have more than 100 Leadership Cortland graduates. Whether it’s serving on a board, holding an elected position, or mentoring a child, our graduates are making an impact on our community.
