The
program begins with a two-day seminar/ training session
centered on learning about fellow program participants,
assessing county needs, and the development of
appreciation for what leadership means. Project groups
are established and potential projects discussed.
Each
month, the Leadership class meets for a full day’s
exploration of the critical issues faced by every
county. The criminal justice system, the educational
system, health care, human services, economic
development and government are all examined with key
people from each segment. Whether it is a day spent with
the mayor, a tour through the justice system, or a day
with the leaders of the County’s
manufacturing/industrial businesses, the experience is
heightened by access to the decision makers themselves.
The
program focuses on building leadership capacity through
self-evaluation; looking at board development; team
building; strategic planning and leadership styles. A
community project component addresses a need in the
county. These projects are conceived, developed, and
completed by class teams during the year and presented
at the June graduation dinner.
